Rieti, the centre of Italy
Rieti is the geographical centre of Italy. It is a provincial capital and the most important town in Sabina, which has about 200,000 inhabitants, of whom about 47,000 live in the town. Just 70 km from Rome, it is surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains of the capital. The nearest peak is Terminillo, a popular ski resort and tourist centre, well known as a destination since the time of Imperial Rome. There are thermal baths in the locality, along with archaeological sites, medieval buildings and architecture to be found in the city and surrounding villages. The incomparable beauty of the landscape includes nature reserves, lakes, castles and ancient monasteries surrounded by forests, as well as amongst others, the legendary and enchanting village of Labro (go to photogallery).
